This pedal rickshaw cargo tricycle has no fancy features. No factory customisation. Customers can customise the cart to suit their own needs.
The cart has a wooden base. Hence, the unladen cart weight is low. But the weight of motor, batteries and panel will add on.

DISADVANTAGE :

The only known disadvantage that pedal tricycles including pedal rickshaws have the world over (US or China) is the absence of a differential. Our pedal rickshaw is no different. These tricycles have a single rear wheel drive.

BEM® Savitré Trichakrika™ Solar-Tricycle Description

The BEM® सवित्रे-त्रिचक्रिका™ Savitré-Trichakrika, Solar tricycle, is different from all other electric vehicles with respect to its charging needs. The Solar tricycle does not need to be plugged into an electric socket for charging! No need to hunt for an electric socket at your destination or place of work. Simply park the tricycle with the solar panel facing the sun for approximately 4 hours to recharge the battery of the e-bicycle after 25 kms of daily travel.

Harness solar energy even while travelling. During day travel, the DC motor of the Solar tricycle usually draws only 80% to 85% of the total current requirement from the Li-ion battery while the Solar panel supplies the rest (15% to 20%). Reduced burden on the battery means longer life of the battery. The slower charging process over 6 hours under the sun is also recommended to enhance the battery life. (In sharp contrast, fast charging from electric outlets reduces battery life).

Looking for a low loss charging solution for your E-tricycle? A 230 Volt AC to DC conversion is inefficient. Introducing the higher efficiency DC to DC (Solar to Battery) conversion with Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) for faster charging with a smaller solar panel.

About the BEM® सवित्रे™ Savitré MPPT Solar Charge Controller

The BEM® सवित्रे™ Savitré - 2 Amps MPPT Solar Charge Controller consists of MPPT digital controller and photovoltaic drivers and is designed to control high efficiency DC/DC conversion used in photovoltaic based Li-Ion battery charging application. It is a 3 Amps (Max.) Solar True Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm based charger for 48 Volt (Nominal), 56 Volt (Maximum) Lead Acid batteries. This charger provides you with the ability to extract the maximum possible power out of your Solar panel of rating 12 Volt, 40W, and feed it into the rechargeable Lead Acid battery. This means that the E-tricycle battery would get fully charged in the shortest possible time with a smaller sized (lower cost) Solar panel. Recommended size of solar panel is 12V, 75W. Two numbers of 75W solar panels can be easily fitted on the roof top of a standard tricycle

Set-up is easy as well. Simply, plug the solar panel into one (input) side of the solar charge controller and the e-bicycle battery into the other (output) side, then Switch ON the charger and the battery would start charging at the fastest rate! Ensure that the solar panel is facing the sun, avoid shadows, and keep the panel surface clean for best performance.

A Solar Assist or Pedal Assist (PAS) control that gives the rider an ability to choose solar assistance to make pedaling effortless.

Three Operation Modes in BEM® Savitré Tricycles :

Throttle Mode: Switch ON the Power by turning the key clockwise. Gently rotate the throttle handle anticlockwise to accelerate. Retain the position of handle rotation to cruise at the desired speed. Let go off the handle to allow it to get back to the original (zero) position to cut off battery supply to the motor and free wheel - cycle continues to move due to inertia. With a 5Ah Battery one can cover a distance of 15 to 20 kms in this mode
Pedal Assist Mode (PAS): Switch ON the Power by turning the key clockwise. Do not use the Throttle handle. Instead press your foot on the pedal. The Pedal Assist Sensor (PAS) will detect your pedalling speed and assist manual power with battery power. The PAS mode allows you to travel the same distance with less manual effort. Battery gets drained less in the PAS mode in comparison to the Throttle mode, thereby enabling one to cover larger distances. With a 5Ah Battery one can cover a distance of 25 to 30 kms in this mode.
Manual Pedal Mode: Switch OFF the Power by turning the key anti-clockwise. This would disable both PAS and Throttle modes. The bicycle gets transformed back to a human powered, pedal driven one. This mode is particularly useful to safely return back home, when you run out of battery power. The 18Ah Battery does not get drained in the manual pedal mode.

Tip: Apply brakes only when needed. Applying brakes unnecessarily wastes energy.

Safety Features:

Bell : A rotary mechanical Bell is also fitted as a safety feature to enable the rider to ring and warn pedestrians and other vehicles particularly when the rider is riding the bicycle in a manual mode with the electric switch and hence the Horn in a OFF state.
Mirror: For safety on roads that have merged traffic, with no separate bicycle lanes, when most of the other powered vehicles are eager to overtake the low speed bicycle, a rear view mirror is most helpful. A small cute mirror is fitted on the right handle to give the rider a glimpse of the fast approaching vehicles from the rear.

Charge while you ride: Keep the Solar charger switched ON while you ride along with your panel. The solar panel will supply approximately 15 to 20% of the BLDC motor's needs while you ride. This means that the battery would be supplying only 80 to 85% of the energy and thus getting drained less, again enhancing the battery life. This also means that you can cover larger distances after a full charge.

Low Loss / High Efficiency Charging Process: When you charge the battery from a 230 Volt ac electric mains, an AC to DC conversion takes place which is inefficient. This means high temperature - low reliability operation, or requirement for forced cooling or bigger heat sink for the charger. Many AC to DC chargers are also seen to inject harmful harmonics into the AC system. Unlike this, the Solar to Battery charge process is DC to DC which is more efficient, which means that the charger can be smaller in size, more reliable, no need for cooling fans, less noise, etc.

Optimum Charging Process: Unlike other chargers, the solar charger is microcontroller based and intelligent. The ARM controller chooses an optimum - Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) point for the DC to DC (Solar to Battery) conversion for efficient charging with a smaller solar panel that can be carried on a bicycle.

Charge in the Parking Lot Under the Sun: Staying in an Apartment or an Upper Floor? With Lithium Batteries getting placed inside the bicycle frame it becomes more and more difficult to charge the battery from an electric ac mains point; the entire bicycle needs to be lifted to the Apartment.
